Movie Night: Remembering Judy
Remembering Judy: A Centennial Celebration of the Life, Work, and Legacy of Judith Leibowitz Co-created by Kim Jessor and Carolyn Serota, this online event took place on the 100th birthday of Alexander teachers Judy Leibowitz and her twin sister Pearl Ausubel on October 7th, 2020. Judy was a founder as well as the first Director of The American Center for the Alexander Technique (ACAT); she was also a founding faculty member of the Juilliard Drama Division, where she taught for 23 years. The event paints a multi-faceted, moving, and inspiring portrait of Judy through remembrances from over 35 of her ACAT and Juilliard colleagues and students, as well as archival footage of her teaching. Pearl’s teaching at ACAT is also celebrated. The film introduces the Judith Leibowitz Scholarship Committee, which raises funds to provide scholarships for BIPOC candidates to train as Alexander teachers in order to diversify our profession.

Germany, USAReplay – AT & Violin Masterclass (Video Recording)
Public Masterclass: AT / Violin Masterclass with Noah Bendix-Balgley and Erik Bendix Recording from Thursday night – 90 min As First Concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Noah Bendix-Balgley travels the world teaching violin masterclasses to aspiring advanced violinists. Less well-known is that he has been taking Alexander Technique lessons since he was 11, and that his father, Erik Bendix, is a well-seasoned Alexander Technique teacher with decades of experience lending a hand (or two) to violinists. Here, for the first time, they join forces to boost the skills of some promising young violinists studying in Berlin. The students will present short pieces for unaccompanied violin, and Noah and Erik will help them use less effort to create more satisfying music. The Berlin Philharmonic 2022 – 2023 season will just be starting the week the AT Congress Berlin 2022 takes place. This evening salutes that convergence by bringing two generations and two beautiful traditions together. Berlin has been home to five generations of the Bendix family, with Erik’s sixth generation the only exception. He currently divides his time between Berlin and Asheville, North Carolina.
